Painting Tutorial: Weathering and Battle Damage

A pristine prop is nice, but battle-worn weapons tell a story. Learn our weathering techniques!

Materials Needed

  • Acrylic paints (black, brown, silver)
  • Dry brushes
  • Sponges
  • Matte sealer

Techniques

Dry Brushing: Load brush, wipe most paint off, lightly drag across edges. Sponge Dabbing: Creates worn paint texture. Wash: Thin dark paint into recesses for depth.

Where to Weather

Focus on edges, handles, and areas that would see contact. Think about how the weapon would actually be used!
